Jordanian Society for Desertification Control & Badia Development

JSDCBD was established in May, 1990, based on the recommendation of the permanent committee for desertification control adopted by the League of Arab Countries. JSDCBD is a non-profit, non-government society, specialized in studies and researches related to desertification phenomenon and the suggested solutions. Also prepare cultural and informative awareness programs and work on serious participation for the growth and development of Badia via executing projects.

Successful Projects

Funded by : The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) under the Small Grants Program. Financed by Global Environment Facility (GEF). The site was prepared as demonstration site for activities related to water harvesting , afforestation and protecting biodiversity, the center targets scientific researchers , students and local communities. The site is still managed by the society.

within this project , the society managed to draw a topographical map and conduct a detailed topographical survey for the site area, conduct field infiltration rate tests to identify the porosity and permeability of the geological formations in the area, prepare the needed plans and designs for the external and internal barriers and surveyed the fauna and flora within the project area.

Funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) under the Small Grants Program. Financed by Global Environment Facility (GEF), 1999. The project demonstrated the best practices for conserving Oak tree (Quercus Aegilops ) through land preparation, irrigation and conducting awareness session for the local communities.

Social Responsibility

JSDCBD has undertaken to achieve its goals through serving the local community. It has been assigned to rehabilitate arid areas in particular an area of 150 Dunums located in (Um Rummaneh). JSDCBD planted thousands of forest trees over more than 20 years in (Um Rummaneh). It is still undertaking the responsibility to cover the whole land by forest trees and protect its biodiversity.
